On the 1st to 3rd December 2020, FSKM successfully hosted an international workshop on digital platform. The workshop called as 3rd ASEAN Workshop on Information Science and Technology (AWIST2020) was the result of the collaboration between the four institutions - Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), and Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM). The UiTM team consists of members from Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), Shah Alam, UiTM Kedah, UiTM Pulau Pinang, UiTM Machang, and UiTM Johor.
For the first time since its collaboration, the entire workshop took place on a digital platform. This is due to the uncertainties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The workshop was hosted by UiTM and broadcasted live from the Global Learning Space, FSKM, UiTM Shah Alam with the CISCO Webex technology. The workshop sessios was officiated with speech delivery by Vice Chancellor of UiTM, Emeritus Professor Datuk Ir Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim.
The workshop started with a 2 days of knowledge sharing with 1 keynote speaker from Oracle Malaysia, 4 invited speakers from the 4 collaborating institutions, and 4 sessions that brought the latest research findings related to artificial intelligence, entertainment science and technology, intelligent robotics, software engineering, knowledge management, image processing, and internet of things. 27 presentations were delivered during the 4 sessions of knowledge sharing. AWIST2020 has attracted participants from various countries including Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Hungary, and China.
On the 3rd day, roundtable discussion was conducted discussing on the collaboration’s opportunities available. This include the joint grant application across institution (e.g. Sumitomo, The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Toshiba International Foundation Grants, Microsoft, AI for Accessibility Grants Application, ASEAN IVO, and Malaysia-Spain Innovating Programme (MySIP); AWIST Webinar that covers variety of topics related to research, special lecture and student (e.g. graduate on time, viva, scientific writing); and also sharing of expertise information from the participating institutions.
