BACKGROUND
Crowdsourcing is one of the Digital Malaysia initiatives to focus specifically on two key drivers: innovation and creativity, and productivity. Under Digital Malaysia, crowdsourcing industry has been identified as a potential industry to increase the income of low-income earners. The industry provides employment and income to individuals who are interested. ICT-oriented programs are formed in order to complete the National Transformation Agenda that will drive the economy towards a high-income nation by 2020. Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) has been mandated as the lead agency for the Digital Malaysia initiative.
Realizing on the potential of crowdsourcing as a new entrepreneurial evolution in digital economy that offers various research areas to be explored, Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM) has taken this opportunity to set up the Crowd Business Innovation Centre (CBIC). The centre will work closely with MDeC, crowdsourcing industry players, government agencies and other universities to help the development of crowdsourcing industry.
The objective of this centre is to serve as a centre for research, consultation, sharing information and training. It will become a centre of innovation in the production of high-impact ideas related to crowdsourcing. It will also be the centre of human development and training for each component involved in crowdsourcing industry. The establishment of CBIC will provide direct impact in terms of quality lecturers, programs, graduates, research commercialization and industry networks. The establishment of CBIC will directly help the university to strengthen the research, teaching and learning among lecturers.
