Kochiu’s main research areas:
Ko-Chiu Wu is Professor in the Department of Interaction Design, National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan. He has professional practices of library design, and media communication. His research focuses on Human-information interaction, Information seeking behavior and cognition differentiation of media.
Recently, he focuses on encouraging crowd-sourcing approaches for children using library in a smart way. His group designed a library navigation APP and the system for children readers to search books, foster community, facilitate book-shared action, and support librarians to manage collections with innovative actions. He also explored information seeking behaviors and affective state for people operating an information visualized Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). User experiences with a touch-wall interface featuring both clustering and categorization representations of available eBooks in a public library were investigated to understand human-information interactions under work-focused and recreational contexts.


Kochiu’s work as a research leader:
Since 2018, he has been Director of Department of Interaction Design which setting him opportunities to explore HCI & Design education. He has supervised 60 students to completion at Master/PhD level. He has held funding from MOST, MOE, ABRI and from the University, and led projects to collaboration between industry and school.

Kochiu’s work for the research community
He served in the editor board for the Journal of Architecture and the Design Research Annual. Within library and information science, he is a reviewer for several journals and conferences.

Kochiu’s STEM work:
Innovative services, digital technology, and quality information are increasingly required in libraries to meet the needs of digital natives (i.e., children). Developing a smartphone app, which could incorporate mobile technology, smartphone platforms, augmented reality (AR), and suitable icons for subject categories, for young readers could stimulate unique searching behaviors and enhance their autonomous learning abilities.
