Dr Fakhrul as Distinguished Visitor to Academic Institutions in India and Pakistan

Dr Fakhrul Hazman’s recent appointment as Distinguished Visitor (2017-2019) has sanctioned him to share vast knowledge and experience pertaining to his research area in Spatial Visual Analytics. The appointment was presented by The IEEE Computer Society as part of the initiative of the Region 10 (Asia and Pacific) Distinguished Visitors (Speakers) Program. Thus, several talks and discussion sessions were held to foster academic research and collaboration activities. His recent visits include;

March 15, 2017 – A visit to research lab at Panimalar Institute of Technology, Chennai India where students’ projects utilizing drone technology were witnessed. Later, he conducted a talk on “Data Driven Infographics”, which was attended by undergraduate students and faculty members at the institution. A similar session was held with IT companies around Chennai.

March 17, 2017 – Discussion with Prof. Nandi, Director of IIIT-Allahabad, on the challenges and opportunities in IT sectors in India. Later in the evening Dr Fakhrul delivered a keynote address entitled “Potential Use of Gamification in Education” at IEEE Computer Society India Symposium 2017.

March 19, 2017 – Attended Quiz Competition at the symposium, followed by a Mission to Mars sharing session by Madam Moumitta Dutta, project manager at ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), later in the afternoon.

March 20, 2017 - Arrived at Integral University, Lucknow for a welcome speech at International Symposium on Computational and Characterization Techniques in Engineering and Science 2017. A dialogue session to discuss on collaboration opportunities between Malaysia and India was held with the faculty members of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IU, Lucknow.

March 21, 2017 – Meeting on collaboration opportunities with Prof. Anand, the Dean, Department of Computer Engineering and Applications, GLA University, Mathura. Conducted a  seminar on “Potential Use of Gamification in Education” for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

April 27, 2017 - Meeting with Prof. Dr. Khan Gul Jadoon, Director of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad, which includes further collaborations and opportunities. A session talk entitled “from Game to Gamification – a Reflection” was conducted with undergraduate students of Computer Science and IEEE members organized by IEEE COMSATS Abbotabad Student Branch and IEEE Computer Society CIIT, Abbotabad.

April 28, 2017 - Meeting with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of Capital University of Science & Technology, Islamabad for a discussion on collaborations and exploring opportunities between the university and Malaysian counterparts. Later afternoon, Dr Fakhrul presented a talk on "Adaptation of Enjoyment in Learning through Gamification" at IEEE Capital University Social & Educational Carnival (ICSEC'17). After the session he reviewed exhibitions and poster presentations by students.

FSKM hopes to see future engagement with academic institutions within the Asian region to thrive for FSKM in Excellence.
