Workshop #1: Decorating the World with Interactivity

To enable participants to explore how they can create their own interactive decorative patterns. This means learning how to design their own visual markers that can be scanned and recognized by mobile device. It also means learning how to connect these to digital media so as to create an integrated user experiences.
The workshop will provide an introduction to and hands-on experience with the technology of Artcodes, a freely available platform for creating and sharing user experiences that involve scanning everyday artefacts in order to trigger digital media. It will also discuss the key HCI design challenges that arise in such experiences.
Participants will need to bring their own phones or tablets (iPhone or Android)!

Workshop #2: Just Right Usability Testing

While usability testing is a critical part of UX process, it's often either overlooked or seen as a burden in the way of getting a product launched. This workshop will show how you can do "just right" usability testing that is both time and economically efficient, but deliver tremendously valuable results that greatly impact product design. We'll go through how to prepare for, conduct and trend the results of a mobile app moderated usability test. It's a fast paced but easy to understand course that will give you great takeaways you can implement right away into your company or startup.
Each participant would need a mobile phone with usability testing tool app "LookBack" installed and setup, with sufficient amount of storage on their phone to allow recording and playback of their testing session.
Workshop #3: Conducting Brain Research

Brain research has captured a lot of interest among researchers for understanding the physiological data to explain user behaviours in various contexts e.g. interaction with simulators in virtual reality environment, use of multimedia elements as intervention, users' emotions. This workshop will showcase several researches that have been conducted in IIUM.
This workshop is ideal for undergraduates, postgraduates, researcher, and practitioners who are interested to learn the method and techniques in conducting brain interaction research and evaluation using brain interaction tools.

Come join an "architecture crew" to create your vision of a mall that disrupts mall design as we know it and create the ultimate shopping and entertainment experience. You'll learn how to use team collaboration and design thinking along with proven UX process basics such as competitive analysis, interviewing, story boarding, prototyping and various validation techniques to design mall floor plans of the future.
